The Religious Heritage Innovator of the Year competition, initiated by Future For Religious Heritage (FRH) in 2022, aims to honor and advance excellence in the realm of religious heritage. Every year, this prestigious award recognizes five outstanding projects that have made or are making significant contributions to the protection, enhancement, and/or promotion of Europe’s sacred sites.

A distinguished panel of experts evaluates the entries based on the principles of inclusivity, sustainability, resilience, innovation, and cooperation, aligning with the pillars of the European Commission’s Framework for Action on Cultural Heritage.

The 2023 edition of the competition is now accepting applications from June 28 to November 30. One overall winner and four finalists will be selected, and their projects will be widely showcased by FRH as exemplars of best practices.

Organizations, public administrations, universities, cultural heritage professionals, academics, researchers, and representatives from European civil society with projects connected to religious heritage are encouraged to submit their applications.

The winner and finalists will have their projects showcased at the 2024 FRH Conference. Furthermore, the projects of the winner and finalists will be featured in a special publication and promoted throughout Europe as exemplary models of best practices.
