The HUB-IN lighting masterplan will contribute to a safer and more attractive historic centre
On 27 February 2024, Braşov City Council unanimously approved the HUB-IN Lighting Masterplan for the Historic Centre of Braşov. Developed within the HUB-IN project by HEBLU S.R.L, after an extensive assessment of the current state of the existing lighting, the Masterplan is a strategic document that provides a set of directions and a framework for the long-term development of the Romanian city’s lighting.
Valorisation of monuments and reduction of light pollution: a new Braşov
This document aims to increase the safety of Braşov residents and tourists and create an attractive urban environment at night. It also seeks to eliminate inconsistencies in public lighting in the historic centre area. In addition, the plan proposes a new approach to reduce the light pollution caused by ads and shop windows. The document details concepts related to street and pedestrian street lighting, architectural lighting, ornamental lighting, and commercial and advertising lighting while maintaining a high degree of flexibility for different solutions.
Through the implementation of the Masterplan, a balanced, uniform night-time image will be created, in line with the ambience of the historic centre. This will facilitate safe exploration of the area and orientation, encouraging social interaction and activities in spaces currently less used.
Once the Masterplan is adopted, any future project to upgrade or replace street or architectural lighting installations must comply with its principles.
The Braşov HUB-IN project is implemented by ABMEE to support the regeneration process of the HUA, following principles of sustainability, combating over-touristification, fostering heritage enhancement, and local identity preservation.
