Slovenska Bistrica launches student-led initiative to revitalise abandoned urban spaces
Small Local Actions project launched by the Slovenska Bistrica Municipality invites residents to breathe new life into neglected parts of the Historic Urban Area (HUA) and transform them into inviting, vibrant spaces where people want to gather.
This new initiative is the focus is on engaging local high school students in revitalising the area surrounding the Crouzet building, the venue at the heart of Slovenska Bistrica’s HUB-IN project. The initiative encourages students to propose innovative ideas for repurposing abandoned spaces and enhancing the visual appeal of newly created co-working spaces.
This project is integrated into the students’ coursework on developing entrepreneurial ideas. With guidance from the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica and the Institute for Spatial Policies, which brings extensive experience in similar projects, students will receive the support they need throughout the process.
During the first workshop in late September, students were introduced to their assignments, toured the intervention area, and began brainstorming specific ideas for improvement. Throughout the project, they will work closely with three mentors from different fields, gaining practical skills in idea generation, planning, budgeting, and implementation.
This hands-on experience will empower them to transform the Crouzet building area into a more dynamic and appealing space for the entire community.
