Discover the creative journey of the Caravane Creative Lab and its impact on local heritage
Since the first open call for artistic projects was launched in June 2023, the Caravane Creative Lab – a walking group of artists – started scouting potential paths for a new cultural project: the GrandAngoulême’s Metropolitan Trail. Within the framework of the HUB-IN project, citizens, artists, and various stakeholders gather to walk around the historical urban area of the municipalities of GrandAngoulême, share knowledge about the local and industrial history and imagine new narratives about the future of the territory.
The role of artists is very important to develop a common cultural path linked to the local historical heritage. Different artists perceive the local environment in different ways, but the roots are the same. While walking, discovering, and sharing, creativity and inspiration can strive.
Thanks to two open calls, GrandAngoulême selected 22 artistic projects: live arts, photography, drawing and comic strips, land art, recordings, and historical archives gathering. Artists are working on their projects to present them soon on various sites of the Metropolitan Trail. The complete map will be published here soon.
Comics, photography, and artistic installations along the Metropolitan Trail
Among the projects awarded, we find:
- La météorite molle (The soft meteorite) – an illustrated comic eco-fiction including extraterrestrial aliens fighting for energy supplies. The aim is to highlight how the industrial heritage can be part of tomorrow’s landscape.
- Carnet d’exploration (Exploration notebook) – an illustrated comic guidebook through a post-apocalyptical version of GrandAngoulême to think about tomorrow’s heritage.
- Zai-zai podcasts – a series of 4 podcasts to document the creation of the metropolitan trail and the offbeat look at heritage it includes
- Jardiner, cheminer (To garden and to strawl) – a series of 5 photographic and radiophonic investigations along one branch of the trail to investigate how different gardens can be an asset for the future.
- Démentellement! (Dismantelling!) – an artistic installation staging a photographic and radiophonic investigation about the evolution of the industrial area aiming to open a discussion about the dis-industrialization process.
