On 14 and 15 September, discover how the past meets the future to enhance and preserve the local cultural heritage
The Maritime Mile Heritage Lab offers a unique opportunity to delve into Belfast’s rich maritime heritage through the lens of technology and innovation. As part of this initiative, various pilot innovation projects are being tested, providing an exciting way to explore the city’s iconic waterfront. During the European Heritage Open Days on 14 and 15 September, be sure to keep an eye out for QR codes at key locations, which allow you to download free apps and experience these innovative and immersive offerings at no cost.
Fostering dynamic connections between different communities
These pilot projects have been made possible by the HUB-IN Challenge Fund, which fosters dynamic connections between Belfast’s heritage, the creative industries, local communities, and businesses along the Maritime Mile. This initiative not only enhances the visitor experience but also supports the development of entrepreneurial and digital innovation skills within the community.
Each project was developed in collaboration with local heritage organisations and communities, resulting in new prototype visitor experiences that bring Belfast’s waterfront to life. These experiences, powered by artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual reality, range from interactive 3D/VR rooms to immersive trails and augmented reality experiences.
These innovative projects breathe life into historical facts, artifacts, and figures, all while connecting to key heritage sites along the Maritime Mile, including the Titanic Hotel Belfast, HMS Caroline, PRONI, St Joseph’s Church, and Sinclair Seamen’s Church.
This year, take your exploration of the Maritime Mile to the next level with modern, tech-driven experiences—a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and cutting-edge innovation!
