Given that the building industry is responsible for 40% of EU’s energy consumption and 36% of green-house gas emissions, the European Union through the European Green Deal and targeted actions such as the “Renovation Wave”, aims to double the rate of annual energy renovations in the next decade in order to reach the objective of reducing its emission to net-zero by 2050.
Although energy renovations are a crucial part of the solution, some cases may require special attention, especially those in heritage regions and buildings. The historic built environment is often more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and the energy crisis, due to their construction characteristics and their architectural identity, which must be preserved in urban regeneration attempts.
The webinar titled “CITIES – BUILDINGS – SKILLS: Energy Renovations in Historic Areas at Different Scales” will provide an overview of the Cyprus Energy Agency’s projects that relate to various aspects of energy efficiency of historic urban fabrics.
How can urban strategies, building construction methods and regulations, as well as the upskilling of professionals of the built environment transform and upgrade historic buildings, while preserving their unique sociocultural identity and the environment? Join us to explore innovative approaches and solutions that will bring together sustainability and cultural heritage!
