SUMMARY:Achieving Climate Neutral Cities through the Regeneration of Historic Urban Areas
DESCRIPTION:On 12 October 2023\, join our session in the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels\n\n\n\nThe European Week of Regions and Cities is one of the major EU initiatives. It is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions can discuss common challenges\, showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs\, implement European Union cohesion policy\, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. The 2023 edition will take place from 9 to 12 October in Brussels. \n\n\n\nHUB-IN is happy to take part in this event hosting the session Achieving Climate Neutral Cities through the Regeneration of Historic Urban Areas together with our sister projects Centrinno and T-Factor on 12 October from 9.30 to 11 am CET. \n\n\n\nThis engaging session aims to discuss how to regenerate Historic Urban Areas in the co-creation of Climate Neutral City Contracts (CCC) for the EU Mission on Cities. A fresh new Policy Report issued by the three EU-funded projects will be introduced. Moreover\, policy-makers\, city makers and researchers with selected Mission Cities – Lisbon\, Milan and Dortmund – will share their experiences in the context of their climate and circular economy policies in thematic world-café and peer-learning exercises. \nRegister here. SUMMARY:Have your say about the architectural lighting of Brașov's Historic Center
DESCRIPTION:During Earth Hour\, Brașov residents are invited to give their opinion on the Architectural Lighting within the Historic Centre\nFor the design of the future Architectural Lighting Masterplan for the Historic Centre\, Brașov residents are invited to walk around the Old Town\, in a special context\, without any light within the public spaces\, and to provide their opinions to the specialists about how the lighting in Brașov Old Town should be. \nDuring Earth Hour\, on Saturday\, March 25th 2023\, from 20:30 to 21:30\, together with more than 8\,000 cities in 195 countries\, for one hour\, Brașov turns off the lights in the city. This way\, citizens can experience individually or in groups\, what a city is without electricity on the streets\, and then\, when the lights will be turned back on\, after 21:30\, they can analyse\, by comparison\, how satisfied they are with the street and architectural lighting. \nDuring the walk\, citizens are invited to keep the following in mind: \n\nWhat aspects of lighting in public spaces are important to everyone?\nWhat problems with the lighting in the Historic Centre of Brașov can they identify?\nWhich areas of the Historic Centre of Brașov do they consider to be active in the evening?\nWhich areas of the Historic Centre would they like to see become more active in the evening?\nWhich areas of the Historic Centre of Brașov do they perceive as safe/unsafe in the evening?\nWhat type of light do they consider to be the most suitable for the Old Town: warm/ neutral/ cool?\nWhich monuments in Brașov do they consider to have pleasant lighting?\nWhich monuments in Brașov would they like to be illuminated?\nWhat lighting changes would they like to see in the Historic Centre of Brașov?\n\nEveryone participating to this action will be able to win\, by random choice\, vouchers for selected locations in the Historic Centre. \nThe aim of this initiative is to gather ideas from Brașov residents\, suggestions and opinions\, but also criticisms\, concerns and fears about the lighting in the Old Town. DESCRIPTION:Given that the building industry is responsible for 40% of EU’s energy consumption and 36% of green-house gas emissions\, the European Union through the European Green Deal and targeted actions such as the “Renovation Wave”\, aims to double the rate of annual energy renovations in the next decade in order to reach the objective of reducing its emission to net-zero by 2050. \nAlthough energy renovations are a crucial part of the solution\, some cases may require special attention\, especially those in heritage regions and buildings. DESCRIPTION:A Webinar organized by Hub-In\, CENTRINNO and T-Factor as part of the New European Bauhaus Festival 2022\nThis one hour webinar will be structured as an on-line talk presenting different voices about inclusive and sustainable urban regeneration processes in underused heritage areas in European Cities. Three different approaches to business models and financing systems will be presented\, stemming from sister projects HUB-IN\, CENTRINNO and T-Factor. The cases are wrapped in a single fictional storyline that develops into the event programme. \nCan Jane save her city’s old factory? Being a young entrepreneur from a mid-sized European city\, Jane is fully dedicated to turning the abandoned building into a flourishing place; a vibrant destination that people and businesses want to be a part of. But the journey is difficult and along the way Jane finds more questions than answers:  \n\nWhy are some old buildings coming back to live again when others are not? She studied Environmental Science in the Autonomous University of Baja California\, and earned her first master’s degree as an Erasmus + Scholar in Aalborg University\, Aveiro University\, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona\, then specialized in Urban Transformations at TU Dortmund. She specialises in the study of temporary urbanism as a tool for transformations\, and is passionate about understanding how we can use impact frameworks to assess the influence of temporary uses in sustainability transitions and social innovation. \nFrancesco Cingolani (Volumes)\nFrancesco Cingolani is the co-founder and director of Volumes\, a global innovation laboratory based in Paris committed to supporting the emergence of local ecosystems for positive impact through research\, consulting and training in the field of social innovation\, circular economy\, sustainable food and digital fabrication. Francesco lives between Paris and Italy\, where he started an NGO to convert the semi-abandoned baroque Villa Buonaccorsi into a civic laboratory to shape the future of Europe. Being an architect and engineer\, Francesco is also committed to making the construction sector a more sustainable industry. For that\, he has founded Design by Data\, the first master in France for Computational Design and Construction Technology and he just started Driven\, the first worldwide startup studio for the construction industry. Francesco sits on the supervisory board of the Fab City Foundation\, a global network of 41 cities committed to produce (almost) everything they consume by 2054. \nPieter van de Glind (CrowdfundingHub)\nPieter van de Glind is a senior advisor at the CrowdfundingHub and co-founder of the Sharing Cities Alliance. He has a decade of professional experience in the sharing economy and urban development. Pieter authored several publications and gave +250 keynotes in +25 countries. His deep knowledge on sharing\, digital platforms and new financial models empowers communities\, business and governments to move forward on their goals. Currently he is applying community finance models to (1) a dozen cities from around the world to boost sustainable and inclusive urban regeneration\, and (2) Europe’s transportation and mobility sector\, to accelerate the uptake of sustainable solutions.

Andrea was the Research Officer for Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NIVCA) for 13 years and Project Coordinator for the Open Data Institute (ODI) Belfast Team for 3 years. \nKerrie Sweeney is CEO of Belfast Maritime Trust with over twenty years’ experience of working in the tourism sector. Kerrie’s experience includes ten years between Belfast City Council and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board\, where she was a member of the team that put together the plans for the Titanic Signature Project. \nMichael McGlade is Founder & Creative Director of Yellow Design. Michael has over 25 years’ experience in the field of branding and digital video. SUMMARY:Belfast Maritime Weekender
DESCRIPTION:Come on in for a weekend of ‘mini moments’ along the Maritime Mile in Belfast on 4 and 5 September and find out more about the Belfast HUB-IN project. This ambitious project aims to create a dynamic maritime destination where preservation of heritage complements regeneration. Our staff will be based at the Lord Pirrie Office at the Titanic Hotel but you will also find us at a range of activities and events that weekend. \nThe Maritime Weekender has been designed with space and safety in mind\, pockets of exciting nautical activities will stretch across the entire Maritime Mile\, with something for everyone to enjoy. \nThere are no tall ships but Belfast’s City Council will welcome a host of visiting vessels and boats to the quayside. Climb aboard and learn a little more about life at sea and maybe get a chance to meet some of the crew. Visit Irish Lights vessel ILV Granuaile or the 1960s old style tug boat ‘Brocklebank’ or catch a glimpse of some on-the-water displays and demo racing. \nOther daytime and evening activities include: \n\nlive music and dance\nnautical themed street performers and shows\nplayful art and heritage installations\ndance picnics for children\nwalking and cycle tours\na treasure trail\na pop-up market on the Slipways\, open until 8pm\nlights and illumination (8pm until 11pm)\n\nMost events are free so you can dip in and out at your leisure. SUMMARY:Ledra Palace: Dancing on the Line
DESCRIPTION:If we could think of a building that best represents the impressive development of modernity in Cyprus and\, at the same time\, the turbulent recent history of the island\, that would undoubtedly be the Ledra Palace Hotel in Nicosia. The Ledra Palace embodies and exemplifies the cosmopolitan and multicultural character of the city\, while its own history simultaneously reflects the social and political developments on the island. \nThe exhibition Ledra Palace: Dancing on the Line\, organised by the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia and the CYENS Centre of Excellence\, explores this ‘palace-like’ hotel as a place of memory\, history\, culture and politics and invites the visitor to see the hotel through the eyes of various protagonists: guests\, employees\, architects\, artists\, soldiers\, United Nations staff and many others. \nIn the Temporary Exhibitions Room of the Museum\, exhibits\, memories and stories of people who lived in or have personal experiences of the Ledra Palace relate\, on the one hand\, the adventurous recent history of the island and\, on the other\, reveal modernity in Cyprus. The exhibition aims to ‘revive’ the history of the Ledra Palace in a multivocal and multidimensional way and\, through this story\, to induce the visitor to discuss the modern events of Cyprus. In parallel\, it aspires to honour Nicosia\, as well as to demonstrate modernity in Cyprus. The history of the Ledra Palace unfolds another narrative: that of modernism and an intense\, cosmopolitan social life. Oral testimonies\, in combination with private photographs and objects\, take the lead in this process.
